On a sunny October morning Sharon headed to the south coast to welcome the new students of Southampton University.
On Wednesday, the University held its annual freshers' fair. Sharon, and Romsey MP Sandra Gidley, joined the University's Lib Dem society to help run their stall. The stall, decked out in yellows and oranges, ran two successful petitions, one to scrap tuition fees and the second campaigning against ID cards. Sharon chatted to the new students and welcomed them to her constituency.
Sharon said:
"This was a fantastic opportunity to talk to the Southampton students. As their MEP it is important for me to know what they think of Europe and how I can work for them. With an upcoming Euro election, many of these students will have an opportunity to influence the South East's representatives in the European Parliament.
"Southampton University Lib Dem Society did a great job at organising and running the stall. The society has come on leaps and bounds over the past two years and after today's success it looks like this is set to continue. Well done to the committee and everyone else involved!"
